About
One roll of film is
exactly 5ft long, about 1.5m.
We named the magazine after that length: a familiar roll of 35mm film, just enough for 36 frames. We wanted to share what draws us to analog and to film cameras, and how the same film takes on completely different colors and stories depending on who shoots it and where.
Each issue of 5ft magazine is built around a single film. Three photographers, one writer and one illustrator each tell a story through their own eyes. Same film, different stories. That is what we want to say.
Through film, an analog medium, 5ft magazine will keep sharing its warmth and its small discoveries with our readers.
Same film, different eyes.
Same light, different stories.
How it works
How an issue of 5ft magazine comes together
Choosing the film
The editors pick the film and the theme at the center of the issue.
Shooting
Three photographers shoot the same film, each with their own subject and point of view.
Developing & scanning
The rolls are developed and scanned, bringing out the grain and color only film has.
Words and drawings
A writer and an illustrator create text and drawings that grow out of the photographs.
Publishing
When an issue is truly ready, we publish it digitally and in print.
Get involved
5ft magazine is made together with its readers. Photos, writing or information: every kind of contribution is welcome.
